HANDCRAFTED, DURABLE LEATHER RUGS TO LAST A LIFETIME

It’s not wood, it’s leather! Inspired by nature, SG Leather Rugs, Wall Tiles, Wall Art and Tabletop Décor are uniquely hand-crafted in a bespoke studio in Paw Paw, Michigan. The ancient process of “cuir bouilli,” a method once used by the French to make leather armor and shields, has since been adapted by owner and creator, Scott Gelander using durable, thick, saddle leathers. Scott cuts the leather into strips and turns them on their side to expose the fiber and mimic the horizontal cross section of a tree. This process has now evolved to dramatically transform SG Leather Rugs, Wall Art and Tabletop Decor into more than just realistic tree designs. The saddle leather color base is typically warm tan to brown or black tones or, depending on customer preference, colors can be added by weaving in touches of vibrant and warm suede. An adhesive backing with fiberglass mesh is then applied to bond the leather on the back side, allowing them to be dimensionally stable and last a lifetime.
Over the past two years, Scott’s Leather Collections have undergone a remarkable transformation, captivating his customers, interior designers and art collectors with innovative spirit and craftsmanship. Scott initially forged his reputation by creating oversized leather tree trunks and branches that reached boldly across floors and walls—bringing the organic textures and forms of nature into homes, hotels, corporate offices, and restaurants. Much like his acclaimed leather tree rugs, which move beyond simple representations of tree shapes, Scott’s wall art now also pushes boundaries, inviting viewers to experience his work as immersive, multi-layered creations.
