MORE CUSTOM ORDERING INFORMATION

SIZES – Tree Art rugs can be made in sizes to fit the area where you will be placing the rug.  Each rug is a one of a kind, hand woven leather masterpiece.  We create custom sizes based on your requirements.

The leather rugs tend to be heavy which limits the maximum area to about 60 SF.  Designers can specify an 8′ Organic Round for example, 50.25 SF or a Live Edge Plank style at 5′ w x 8′ long, 40 SF.  Rugs can be smaller or larger in any shape with an area of 60 SF, or less.  Should a project require a larger rug, it can be created in two or more pieces.  Contact us with any oversized rug inquiries and we will share drawings showing the two or three part configuration.

SHAPES – The typical shapes are those mirroring the crosscut of a large tree trunk or a plank cut vertically from the trunk of a tree.  The gallery shows different shapes for inspiration.  The shapes are: Organic Round – Organic Square – Organic Rectangular and Live Edge Plank which tend to look best in rectangular form.

COLORS – The heavy leathers are organic vegetable tanned saddle leather.  The saddle leathers are light to dark brown tones with a warm yellow to orange glow, perfectly mirroring the colors of wood.  Rugs can incorporate one, two, three or more colors.  Each piece is hand woven so you have the option to specify how much, or how little of the contrasting colors in your custom piece.  You will notice in some descriptions, natural saddle leather with 10% brown accents.  The accent could be any percentage up to a rug that is 100% browns.  The black rugs come out amazing, see the gallery for examples.  The gallery images are great for seeing different colors uses in combination.

SUEDE COLOR OPTIONS – We offer colored suedes which allow you to incorporate, reds, blues, greens, purples and grays.  See Cherry Tree in the gallery for a great example of incorporating colors.

FINISHES – Natural Fresh Cut – This is the natural almost suede like appearance of raw edge leather.  The leather rug will slowly darken over time by oxidation, developing a beautiful warm patina similar to a saddle.  The finished rug has a water repellent treatment added for durability.

This rug can be rolled over a large tube for shipping.

Petrified – INQUIRE – This technique is created by finishing the natural leather with a wood derived resin.  The result is a darker, almost petrified wood appearance.  The style rug becomes very firm and flat.  This finish makes the rug virtually indestructible, it could literally be placed in the entranceway of ski resort.  The resin sets up like glass so water does not penetrate the surface.

This style must ship in a pancake style crate as it cannot be rolled, crating and shipping can be more costly.

BARK BOARDERS – The standard boarder replicates the bark portion of the tree, it’s achieved by adding three or four courses of wide dark brown leather at the edge of the rug.  The wider brown leather strips look like the natural bark edge of a crosscut tree.  Plank style rugs have the dark brown bark edges on the long sides of the rectangular shape.  This bark edge style creates the lowest profile off the floor, about 3/8 of an inch.

Pictured in the gallery are more elaborate versions of the tree bark, they are added to the edge in two levels of leather, each with its own hand cut and finished profile.  This style edge raises the height profile off the floor to about a 1/2 inch, but the layered bark kind of, “steps up” the rise for a natural transition off the floor.  Step up rugs have a 1/4″ padding for a touch of softness.

Bark edge boarders are hand stitched through the rug backing, similar to how are shoe sole is stitched on, this anchors the edge leather pieces.

PROFILE HEIGHT OFF OF FLOOR

The profile off the floor is equal to or lower than any other typical carpet.  A standard bark edge is about 3/8″off the floor and the more elaborate step up bark boarder rugs sit up just under 1/2″ off the floor.

All of the construction methods, processes and finishing assure that our Tree Art Rugs will last for decades, if not a century.

All rugs are signed and numbered on the reverse.  Backing material is brown or tan felt.

All leathers are all produced from hides woven by nature and preserved by some of the world’s finest tanneries.  Saddle leather by nature is tanned using vegetable and tree extracts, it’s clean tanned with no heavy metals and it’s biodegradable at the end of its useful life.
